We are the exact same as you as far as ph goes. Our flat upland is acid like yours in the 5.0-5.6 but our subsoils underneath that acid layer has calcium in it. Plenty of it as you can see it if you ever dig a hole. Yours might be similar and that is why you can get by without lime.
