Whatever is easiset for you will be fine, we do mainly zero till so apply all fertilizer at seeding, but sometimes we put on in fall for fields further from home or fields that are on restricted highway during spring weight limits, some is banded in fall and some is spread or broadcast late fall, don't sweat it, put on 100 pounds or more of nitrogen in any form/time/placement and you'll have a crop to harvest
