Ames IA | DeereMan, You are looking at the TrackTill investment and pay off in the right way, the only problem I can see is you are missing some info that changes the economics a bit.
Since TrackTill is on a planter with tracks it would actually effect 4 total rows (one on each side of the track) furthermore they only bought a half kit (two TrackTill units, one for behind each track) At most they only have half of what you are guessing into the kit but most likely less depending on the dealer. All that said the payback would about .5 bu/ac total (6bu on 4/48 rows) and so if he did pay $10K for it at $3.60 a bushel then he needs to cover 5555 acres to pay it off.
It is great to see the data out there but also important to make sure all the info is on the table. Was there any data from this year showing the center rows with and without TrackTill? That may give a more accurate number as well since year to year the compaction yield loss will vary some.
