Well for starters texting availability when he is in a position a call can't be made---------------being a child is quite different today than it was even 5 years ago. I would a lot rather have my kid send me a text to get him from a deserted place when the driver and or the group he is with is drunk or trying to get into worse troubles . There are times today these kids need to save face and get away from a situation they know is bad. Also having the internet can let him google safe havens so to speak in unknown areas if he finds him self in trouble in a strange location...
