I get it, garbage in garbage out.
Farmers that do actually report might be including PP and failed acres which would explain more acres than in the crop production report. The information in the Census should still be statistically significant due to sample size. Even farmers that don't fill it out could benefit making comparisons to their operation.
I would think every county FSA office in the state of Iowa has pictures to know exactly what every reporting and non reporting farmer is doing. They want me to report and can double check my reports if they choose. Seems they could make a better effort to get it right. Too much to expect I guess. Or maybe they do get it right.
