Most people in our neighborhood sidedress corn with one form or another of nitrogen, and I've seen either floaters spreading dry and/or manure rigs on the vast majority of fields.  Inputs aren't what they would be with $7 corn, but I haven't seen much evidence that anybody set out to be agronomically stupid.
