Subject: RE: Awnletted wheat?

West of Dalhart, Texas
Awnletted is an in between description for awned and awn-less wheat varieties. Some beardless wheat varieties still have a very very start of a beard (awn) and the legal description in the seed industry is Awnletted. Usually the awn is less than an 1/8 of an inch long but is still visible to the naked eye as the start of a beard. Beardless varieties still have beards but may only be visible with a glass or microscope.
