Subject: RE: Need to Learn About Silage

south central WI
Bmr corn silage has less lignin so it is more digestible but won't stand well as dry corn. It is used mainly as dairy feed. Regular corn can be used as dairy or beef silage. Harvest when plant moisture is 65-68% moisture, which is usually 1/3 - 1/2 milk line. Wait in longer will cause kernels to harden more and be less digestible.

If you do not know anything about silage, let them know when you apply. Learn as much as you can here and other places, but at least give them the heads up that you may need to be walked through some things. Learning on the job without them knowing is putting their hard earned money on the line so you can have a job. It's no risk to you, you just get fired and find another job. A train wreck with their feeding can cause bankruptcy etc.
