Cows will eat most broadleaf weeds if grazed when the weeds are small and if grazed at a high enough stock density - higher than shown here where I gave them way to much open area this time. I've been very busy on other things so this time I gave them enough for a few days. My main weed problem right now is under my divider wires where I usually either mow or weed whip a couple times a summer but have not had time...can't get good help these days! ;-) My fall back if the weeds get away from me is to clip the whole pasture down and let it all come back and either hay it or high density (smaller open area) graze it. Moisture has been very uneven this summer since early July. This pasture happened to be under a cloudburst about a week ago and looks better than my others. |
