Subject: What can it possibly be? (With pictures)

Bon Homme County, South Dakota
So, this is the 3rd year we've had this field. This spot, which is a slight valley where the rest of the field comes together at, has produced very very minimally compared to the rest of the field. Rest of the field 200+ corn, 60+ soybeans. The finisher went out a littler farther this year, and broke some new ground on the outside edge, that actually sits lower than the spot that doesn't produce well. Those beans are 4 feet tall. The beans in the middle, that are alive, are 6 inches at best.

We chiseled the ground this fall, the low spot, to see if that would help. Probly was in the ground about 8 inches or so. Field before was always corn/soybeans. Agronomist isn't sure what is going on. Soil samples didn't show anything overly concerning. We've def been pouring the fertilizer on the field, so I don't think it's lacking nutrients. It's certainly the low spot of the field, but water doesn't sit there.

Our plan is to put the field into alfalfa next year. You guys ever saw anything that could cause this? Beans first year, then corn, now beans again. All 3 years, plants have about 1/4 the stand as the rest of the field, and the ones that are alive, produce little to nothing. It's only an acre or so, but I'd like to know what the solutions could be. Fertilizer? Do we need to deep rip it?

Thanks in advance.
