| Something to remember.
Allelopathy does exist but corns larger seed size and deeper planting depth make it less susceptible compared to small seeded grass crops. I can't say enough plant deep and provide early N. Don't confuse not having to worry about allelopathy with not having to worry about decomposing rye tying up N. That is definately a concern especially as the rye gets more mature. This is just my opinion from experience and the research I've seen. My standard reccomendation for rye ahead of corn as lo long as moisture is not limiting; plant corn into green rye with N on the planter. Burn down rye with glyphosate with liquid n as carrier shortly before or after planting. Also use a low rate if rye. Like 20-30lbs with a drill. | |
