We do it all the time, and still raise great beans.  If the field is exceptionally clean, we don't put in the roundup, but you lose yield from weeds, too.  They say the glyphosate will knock off flowers, but not every flower becomes a pod anyway.  It's best not to have to do it, but if you have weeds, put in the roundup.
