Subject: one of the coop boy's favorite

Clark SD

corn fields, or maybe not. LOL
This field was planted on 5/9. It was planted no-till into rye stubble, it had plenty of moisture at that time, but nearly all the field got planted and the planter got stuck in one of those areas where if it would been over a few feet it wouldn't have happened, one of those sweet spots. It took the corn a while to emerge, first noticed it on 6/2.
Well back to the coop boy's, i can imagine what was going  thru there minds when they went out to spray this field, not if i get stuck, but when. It was sprayed three times, and each time by a different operator. I am thinking the manager wanted all three to experience the thrill of spraying under those conditions. As far as i know none of them got stuck, also the operator from the other coop who broadcast the urea had the same experience.
Here are a some pictures, the first few show the field early on, the one showing the rut has water in it now. The last few pictures show what it looks like now up the hill aways near the summit (back slope). Near as i can tell the slope is at 7-8%. What surprised me that there moisture right up to the soil surface. There are some spots where there a plant or two missing, but you can see in one the pictures it tried to compinsate by adding tillers, in this case three.
Forgot to mention, the ear that i randomally picked had 20 rows of kernels, each row had 30 kernels, the planting population was 28k and i think the final stand will average 23k.
