Subject: RE: Big cob shallow kernels

McLeod County, MN
I have it in my plot. It is throwing one of the largest ears in the plot. I have not paid much attention to kernel depth yet. I do believe that it does better in a warm summer than a cool summer. You can find that hybrid in a lot of different bags. Its not identical to some of the others, but the 95% portion of the seed is all variety 1043638. Same as Wensman 9288, LG 5470, Producers 5898, Great Lakes 4879, and some Agrigold number. I think Croplan uses a different refuge than the others.

At the same time, its a late flowering hybrid and may just be delayed compared to others you have. Some hybrids are intentionally bred that way to do the majority of their grain filling past the hottest days and nights of summer.

Let us know how it turns out.
