There was a post, during wheat harvest, about wheat quality.

A couple of the responses indicated planting a blend of wheat varieties to reduce head scab.

It was mentioned that was done years ago, before fungicides, with some success.

The idea was to plant a tall variety blended with a short variety.

This allowed more air space between heads, thus slowing the spread of Fusarium.

Does this work?

Should maturities be blended also or should they be the same maturities?


Everything I've read suggests that consistent HEADING DTE is important to the fungicide application. The other stuff I honestly don't know but wish I did. MAybe someday someone will figure it out.
