anybody here have any experience with rye straw for bedding? comparisons to oat straw?
I spoke to a dairy nutrionist today about the different straws. He said wheat straw chops a little better and floats a little better in the rumen so if he had a choice he would takes wheat over oats, rye, barley but he admitted he was splitting hairs. We baled a bunch or rye straw yesterday that had been through a Case 2188 and you'd have to look hard to tell the difference from wheat.
