| The best thing for that ground is cattle, sod or pine trees. That is typically low, wet ground with poor fertility. Not that many crops couldn't be grown there. But, Bay county is just another 50 miles away from any infrastructure. We already haul beans 125-130 miles one way. Also, soybeans are a poor rotation with peanuts. Sod has been in a downward spiral since the housing crash. That is an oversaturated market with a few big players.
I haven't heard of the Villages buying up land but Deseret has bought a lot of land up this way. They are selling land in central Florida and buying large chucks of St. Joe Land to turn into pasture. That has been more in Gulf and Franklin counties.
