Subject: Cover crops

NC
This fall will be my first attempt at a cover crop so I'm looking for advice. I'm wanting to plant at least a grass and legume mix behind milo. Mix will be no till drilled. Planting dates would be between Oct 15 and nov 15. I would be planting corn in this field mid march to early April next year and am wondering if I can plant green or if I should kill cover prior to planting. From what I've been reading that answer seems like a mixed bag...would I be setting myself up for bug problems in my young corn? I'm not really worried about planting thru the cover. My main goal would be to build organic matter and of course add some N. What can I expect to pay for a mix and what kind of nutrient values can I expect to gain? Thanks for any info.
