Let's look at your base saturations on your soil test. This will help us see what building blocks were used to put it together and each one is a little different and if your mg is higher then ideal that can be part of the problem.

Gypsum could be part of the solution but if ca is already so high then more ca won't fix the problem if K is low where AMS and KCL would be more of an ideal fit.

Cover crops can add humus to the soil which is a good thing but gets hard to get them drilled after harvest and up before weather turns cold.
