You guys must not have to water lawns much there. Sounds like what you need is essentially an underground lawn system, installed 20 feet above ground. There are programmable lawn system controllers that can control a bunch of different zones and run them for different times, different days, pretty much however you want. The lawn stuff is inexpensive too because it's aimed at homeowner budgets.

Our home system uses Rainbird components.



Sort of what I was thinking. The solenoid valves can be bought separate, and at least some of them use 12 dc for the power.

But I'm also thinking it gets cold in Iowa, so you you'd have to have some other place to turn them on/off, no?
