Some very good mathematical answers here...but I'd think you'd also be influenced by particular auger design. Some measure their 71' differently. A scissors hoist can give more leeway by pushing up to bin closer. Your terrain around the bin can influence it depending on how level.

We've done this before & you measure everything out (w/a steel tape) and still the auger doesn't fit like you envisioned it.
