i'm with Garth. At least 1.5" deep will not be a problem unless you have poorly structured soil with a pounding rain that would crust the soil. I've planted radishes 2" deep to reach moisture and they came up great. The soil temp is warm now-it's not like planting corn in cold soil where every 1/4" deep can be a few degrees colder.
