Rolla, ND | A gravity table is a screen with air blowing up through it. The air blows hard enough that the lighter material rises to the top of the pile. The table has a slope and the stuff that rises floats down hill. The heavy stuff maintains contact with the screen. The table also has a kick to it so it gives a little throw uphill (usually table moves about 1/2 inch) and so it seems a little strange at first but the net effect is the heavy material walks uphill and the light material floats downhill.
I use light and heavy just because that's what people usually say and see, it's actually terminal velocity.
If you've seen a destoner, that's just basically a specialized gravity table usually used to remove stones and dirt balls.
