Trigonometry is very useful.
Almost every time I set myself up for some building project I find a triangle or two I have to make. Often, I'll know the length from here to there and there to somewhere else, and I want to know the angle that I need to cut to make that angle work. Trig to the rescue!
(Take the swing set that I was building for my kids, for instance. The top beam was at 10 feet and the angled posts were 12 ((if I remember correctly.)) The Pythagorean Theorem and a little sine or cosine action and I had my angles and the bottom span.)
