Subject: RE: putting seeding down

I fall spread all my alfalfa with great results, and have spread some grass with fine results as well (brome grass). However, I irrigate right behind spreading (flood: 8-10" of water). Chaff rows or similar that do not allow Any seed to soil contact will be a problem (harrowing will help). If you are Sure it is going to rain enough I wouldn't be afraid. A sprinkle will sprout the seed and following sunshine may kill it (needs enough water to get to dirt, I'd say well north of .5"). Just some experience from 'here', your mileage may vary, and good luck.
