southern edge of central illinois | I was fortunate enough today tour quite a lot of area. From north
of Litchfield south to Greenville and back a different way. It was great
to do, not the results. In our area there are some early corn fields that
are prettty good. I'd guess 160 potential if, if things go well. Now last
year we enjoyed 230+ common! Thats not gonna happen. As fields start
getting just a little later conditions decline rapidly. Our last field is just
starting to tassel. Even on a tiled farm it is not very pretty. I'm considering
some N but am in no way convinced it will help. In my 24 years doing what
I love I can't remember so much yellow, unevenness, and stress.
Beans, wow. There are some fields of beans that are decent. Not real
big could turn out ok. But there are thousands of acres that are short,
yellow and just ugly. Disease seems to be starting. And then thousands
of acres not planted and guys have given up. I did on 2 farms as well.
We will survive. We will come back next year and give it our all. I'm not
whining. We are blessed. It has just been an extremely unique year.
I hope things turn out better for each of you. Good luck and God bless. |
