If you go to the upper right hand corner and click on the Apple graphic,-> about this Mac-> System Report-> Power you will get a report on the battery. There should be an indication of cycle count, and overall battery condition.

On my 2011 "daily driver" I show a cycle count of 168 - and about 93% of the original capacity - I can run anywhere from 5 hours to less than 2 (in that case I'm running a second monitor/projector, or Parallels as well as OS X)

On line (FWIW) comments seem to indicate that a cycle count of less than 1000, or capacity greater than 80% is considered acceptable - I'd be concerned if I was at 1/2 those numbers....

A lot depends on temps the battery has seen over its life - I know my MacBook has needed a good cleaning internally a couple of times to keep airflow from the fans working...

Hope this helps..
