Thumb of Michigan
We used glyphosate through a sponge for years. Marestail was finicky (in our experience anyway) to rates, however. We typically used 30% solutions, but the hired man bumped the mix to 50% for a couple of loads. Had a mess- at 30%, the chem trans located down and took out the maretail. At 50%, it simply "burned" the plant everywhere the sponge touched it- and didn't hurt a thing below that. Plant was injured so bad it wouldn't move chemical into the roots. The remaining plant branched out and made an awful mess. This was the "old" formulations of glyphosate, no idea if the new stuff will burn like that. Anyway, I think the thing to remember is that a dab will do you. At least for marestail.
