well, in a way, yes it is that easy , you are removing so many tons of alfalfa per acre but you dont replace pound for pound.

Take corn for example - a great yield - 200bpa at 15% moisture
200bushel per acre x 56lbs/bu *.85dry matter = = 9520 lbs of corn kernels removed from each acre - are you telling me some people are puttign 9500 lbs of stuff back on that acre every year? I dont think so
