I've ran both articulated trucks and a tractor with side dump. The articulated trucks look awesome, but are so heavy they really aren't that great. Most also aren't legal to drive on a road full or empty. Too damn heavy. The side dump with float tires will be much better in soft conditions. Articulated trucks work best where speed is needed and the haul road is solid. In soft conditions they just cut deep ruts.
