I have heard that from people too, but this is what I did to check it out.

My yard was a terrible shade of light green/brown in spite of all the rain. I took a can of urea and spread on one small area to see what would happen and took a can of AMS and spread on a small area next too it. After three or four days, both areas were dark green.

Besides they both should head straight to Ammonium in the soil upon a rain. I think it will work.
