Subject: RE: Killing grasshoppers in organic corn

Regina/ 14 miles South of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan
There was a commercialized version of a grasshopper fungus - "Nosema Locustae" ( sorry can't post link from my IPad) can get them sick... It's in a bran bait if I recall right. This works if they're only a couple of instars from the egg,and not flying yet.

The last time we had them bad we were working on sugar and trap strips to hold them back...it's ironic but nosema was developed in Canada, but is not currently licensed in Canada...no technical reason, but our government has some pretty bizarre policies...

For flying control there was some organic farmer trials done up here with an electrified grid that you pulled with an ATV through a field to thin them out...

It's pretty much reducing the impact as opposed to full control- need multiple strategies early....

FWIW
