It's a bit more complex and we do have a role to play.

1. Large companies with layers and layers of management wanting high salaries doesn't make for a very efficient business model. Large corporations end up the only way to make things like cars due the large number parts, etc, (easiest way to 'herd those cats") however for meat production it's not necessary. At some point, smaller companies with far less overhead will and should run the top heavy, high overhead company out of business.

Except:
2. We keep electing "there aught to be a law" and "what can we get from the government" type legislators who write increasingly freedom restrictive laws all because little johnny eats a cat turd and at the same time these legislators are all too happy to pass corporate written legislation to 'protect the people'. At some point, who can raise hogs if you don't have a team of folks keeping up reporting to various bureaucrats and possibly lobbyists as well? Many large companies have found that being really competitive is harder than just getting a few key laws passed.

It will take several (maybe many) elections to run the current culture out of washington, but it can be done. Perhaps term limits, but frankly we need to just vote no for anyone promising us anything. Whatever it is, no matter how good it sounds, it will come at an extreme price.

There is no shortage of hope, but we are doing this to ourselves. The folks that want to say everything is fine and our direction is sound just don't care and frankly how much difference does it make to someone who is all good with increasing levels of welfare. Perhaps freedom comes with more responsibility than they care for. Parents are not preaching responsibility to their kids much anymore and certainly don't correct them for behaviors that will cause them trouble in the future (only for 'getting in parents way".
