We had 3 dams on one stretch of a drainage ditch that we tore out right around freeze up. Never saw any to try and get a shot at as we tore them out, but they didn't rebuild. They either died or moved farther down the ditch. I always figured that with the timing, they weren't able to rebuild and restock their food supply in a timely manner, so they moved on.
