| In 2008 I put down 70 pounds with the planter and sidedressed by dribbling on 32 another 40 pounds when the corn was 4 feet tall. It produced well (lots of organic matter in the soil and a corn number chosen to produce well with short nutrition). My bottom leaves stayed green long after all the neighbor's fields had fired. A late season stalk N test showed it short on N. And there came a time when it started to get very weak. Fortunately it harvested the next day at 15.5% moisture. I dribbled with weighted drop tubes with rain in the forecast.
