south texas | Im not sure what type of soil is up there. We have heavy Victorian clay and used to bed up and plant on top of the bed like they do in el campo and simular areas. Dont any more bc flat is way easier, plant 19in milo and labor is not as knowledgeable about setting bedders as feild cult. We ran jd rm cult in milo alot. Works good. I used rolling baskets behind plow or drug a heavy summers packer in front of planter. Those planters don't like staying on the bed without coulters or the v type gauge wheels. I liked shallow wide beds for planter. A 10-15in flat top bed works good. If u need bed to keep water off, my practice was for water retention not flooding. All dryland. I would also look into a gps and dump the markers or beds if u dont need beds. Prob get an ezsteer for less than 5k. Seems like alot but bedders pull hard and u will need markers for it as well. I like farming in beds but its less efficient if not necessary. Here narrow milo makes better. | |
