Subject: RE: JD 900 Series Platform Snouts

Having ran a 915 with steel snouts and tear drop reel and now a 920 with the 2 piece poly snouts and pipe reel. I'll give a few observations from "here". Apparently I'm in the minority with having pipe reel issues though.

I mostly plant drilled beans and the long 1 piece steel divider seems more tapered and being skinned on the outside helps things slide all the way past. However I still harvest in alternating passes back and forth. This always seems to pick up the few that inevitably get pushed over. If you harvest in lands though and keep going the same direction pass after pass if you look closely you can see the pushed down beans that don't get picked up and harvested.

The 2 piece poly dividers on the 920 are nice as the outer part is removable which helps to narrow up for transport and storage. However the 2 piece design in my notion does knock more beans down when in drilled beans and the back part of the 2 piece divider seems to be the culprit for mashing them down as it has more blunt leading edge and tends to push things over as the beans are not slid around on the continuous outer sheet metal.

Sort of bulky and awkward to remove also. I contacted the Divider Hinge folks and they are supposed to be working on a hinge kit for the 900 series platforms like they have for the newer ones. http://dividerhinge.com/

The tear drop reel on the 915 used to present challenges with end wrapping of the reel until I installed end reel fillers and made these steel circles to push beans away from the driver driven strap on the spiders.

The pipe reel I do not like at all. Yes there is better visibility but it was a wrapping nightmare for me in drilled beans last fall.  I wish I could have videoed it to better explain what was happening, In short I cut all the molded wings off the tines as they simply caught beans stalks  on the sharp bottom edge of the wing and started the wrapping process.

Also Worthmore cut me some rubber material with a waterjet to fill in the pinch points where the plastic pipe bushings go through the spiders.

Pretty good pic of what I fought last fall. The only pipe not wrapped was the one with the rubber spacers and the wings cut off the teeth.

Like I said your mileage may vary some have noted similar problems while yet others have not. Just info to be aware of when looking.
