Colby, Kansas | Agree with idea1947, in addition to what he said there is also a time component to the temperature. Varieties vary greatly in how long that time requirement is.
FWIW, a couple years ago here we had some wheat that didn't germinate and emerge well into March. I didn't even really think the seeds had swelled, but apparently they had enough as it had vernalized and still made around 30 bu. I had to eat crow on that field, I had basically written it off.

I dug this up. This study was done in the context of planting date, but was in conditions where there was no delay in germination and emergence. Gives some idea of relative yield potential. This data I think supports what idea1947 stated as well as my experiences.
