Your loosing soil structure and moisture. the seed doesn't care what the surface looks like or any preconceived notions a farmer might have. A good planter can provide everything the seed needs in soil contact.
Your picking up a bushel or 2 a t a cost. Don't forget the other variable cost in taking that grain away from the farm.
