| I farm 300 acres - what's worked for me is to find a local guy with some connections. When you don't farm a lot it's easier to capture basis moves. We just let rest of corn go for april delivery at 0 basis when posted bids are -.25. We do use some options, hedges- but my biggest winners are if an elevator is behind and they're needing farmers to haul corn to x processor- they give my guy a call - he calls 15-40 guys he works with and gets their contract filled- usually a .20 -.40 premium to posted. Last 2 falls I had some early corn and was getting + basis when posted was -.35. He always says basis tells u when to lose physical ownership. He can also put a floor in for you. He's made me $ most of the time.
