I've talked to guys that have had good luck touching up cylinder rods that have pits & gouges using JBWeld. Just put it on then when drysmooth it down with emory cloth. The chrome on the rods won't be touched by the emory cloth. Would be a cheap fix, so not out much if it doesn't work.
