Kentucky | I use multiple year corn harvest data for variable rate corn seeding. I will tweak my high, low and average populations based on variety, soils and yield maps. I also play with my high, low and average pops based on field potential. For example, on a low yielding soil I may require the high pop zone to be 135% of average. On a high yielding soil the high pop may kick in at 105-108% of average. Knowing your soils and fields is important. I will also correct pops in areas with one year of bad data such as a high yielding bottom that flooded out one year. It should have a high pop even though the bad year throws the average off. | |
