Subject: RE: Deere to a network??

This thread is interesting for sure.  I just happened to be browsing through a GPS World magazine and saw an interesting advertisement from [ NAVCOM a John Deere Company ] for "StarFire" 5 Centimeter Global....without a base station. Is JD following the lead of Trimble / OmniStar to service the world? Then add to this all the fact that the document that started this thread talks about RTCM and CMR......is it the start of another commodity for the agricultural market since many GPS manufactures use such things?

Speculating......perhaps Deere is seeing the writing on the wall and will be weaning the US dealers slowly with "Global 5 Centimeter" ?

It is all hard to know what the future brings but perhaps Deere is preparing for cheaper GPS things for the price cost squeeze going on in agriculture.  Then there is the issue of some networks being better than others but RTCM and CMR seem to be common to all of the current offerings.....and so as the steller web link shows it must be on Deere's radar.....but evidently not being repeated to all their customers......even with CORS in many states or non-local subscription services for RTK offering such.

Welcome to the world of commodities..........and the cyclical lag of things.  Maybe that is why Rockwell got out of the agricultural GPS market way back when this precision ag adventure started.
