I run a 630 gerringhoff chopping head on a CIH 7010. It's about a perfect setup for us as we doe everything with just 2 people and a bigger head would just cause more sitting with the combine. Most of my fields are 1/2 mile rounds as well and the cart is usually just parked on an end for storage so the small header fits nicely. I could still use a bigger hopper as we can't get a full round on over 160 dry, and we're above that fairly often. As far as the combine setting and so forth it can be challenging as we don't really vary our ground speed according to load. We just cruise along at 6-7 mph. I generally set the machine with the rotor slower and tighter than usual. The header is the weak link for this setup as you're pushing it beyond it's intended capacity. DON'T try to run a junk head in this circumstance. You WILL tear it up.
