Missouri | The Ontrac 3 has an encoder in it's MDU (motor drive unit). This means it can tell how far the wheel has turned. The Ontrac2+ did not have that, it had to wait to observe a change in heading to know how far the wheels had turned. Also, the OT3 can turn the wheel about twice as fast as the OT2+.
The OT3 can acquire the line much more aggressively than the OT2+, and it's faster speed means it can steer machines at faster ground speeds.
If you engage the steering while you are way off the target line (not the best practice with any system), the OT3 will acquire the line quicker than an OT2+. I recommend manually driving an OT2+ machine until it is near the line, then engaging, and it does much better.
An OT2+ is still a good system, and a good buy. They are cheaper, and unless you intend to push much past 8 - 10 mph, they'll drive nearly as well as the OT3. | |
