Just like any other mechanic, we work by the hour, and depend on reputation.... To keep things going.

Supposedly that allows us to be as aggressive as our knowledge allows us to be.......

...which is in direct contrast to these firms that offer "audit insurance".......wherein client pays a front end fee and the firm handles any audit at no additional cost.

If I was the preparer... It would be hard for me to take an aggressive position on behalf of a client if I knew I would be handling an audit on my own ticket.

And I am not talking about tax theory necessarily.... I have heard of preparers just not including all deductions just so they would have a "cushion" in the event of an audit.

I don't think most taxpayers review their completed returns closely enough to know whether or not all transactions have been included.
