Got married this close to Christmas because I was on break from college. Like you say, spring and fall were out, because everybody involved in the wedding either farmed or worked in the ag sector, and summer was tough due to the hubs' military obligations. My good college buddy got married a week after us, the day after Christmas. They had a Christmas themed wedding, ours was a "winter" wedding as opposed to Christmas.  One of the first P.Buckley Moss prints we bought a few years later was "Winter Wedding", and the color palette was purples and lavenders. 
We first lived in a brand new 4-plex apartment in a tiny town near where I was going to college, paid $125/mo rent. We both had a bit of a drive every day.....me to school, the hubs to work. Our living room furniture was bought from a local funeral home that was remodeling.........we got a couch, 2 chairs, 2 end tables and 2 lamps for $110. Thought we were in tall cotton!! :)
