n.c.iowa | Northern corn - 11/26/2014 04:59 I have my first group of Holstein steers about ready to go. They are fat and avg around 1500 #. I have a buyer that bid me 1.60$ picked up and shrunk 4%. Right now it is nice to have them to keep up with hm corn and silage. Next group won't be able to keep up as well. Pounds are easy to put a on and I have lots of feed replacements are exspesinve but I can't feed them forever. This is my group bought at 1$ per pound as flyweights so I've done good but sell or keep for 30 -45 days or longer? What say you? what does your buyer think of 1600lb steers? I know some of the stein packers have raised their weight for the large carcass discount, but at 1650 you are right there. death loss would be a concern. taxes? are you going to buy back replacements right away? |
