| A few things to remember. We are all farmers. In a farm forum, we can at times sound like we know what we are talking about. (g) We think a lot about these things, and sometimes we think we understand something, but if there is one constant when it comes to markets - it is that they will *usually* surprise you. What we are probably dealing with is a chaotic system. Edward Lorenz, a pioneer of chaos theory, probably said it best - "Chaos: When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future." Only the "approximate present" can be known.
So, maybe there will be an "impending financial breakdown" - and maybe not. If it does happen, is it possible to predict how it might unfold? Possible, yes. Probable, no. Maybe a good topic might be to list what we are most sure of about the condition of the "approximate present" and try to put some odds on what could happen based on these conditions - and knowing, according to chaos theory, that our predictions are not likely to happen - at least in the way we think they will.
Short version of this post? Don't trust predictions in a chaotic system. From anyone. | |
