Subject: Baling corn stalk tip of the day.....

Beresford, SD

Last Sat. afternoon my son and I headed out to make corn stalk bales.  He got about 45 acres raked at a slight angle to the rows and I attempted to bale...made about 55 bales and pulled half my hair out.  I was having trouble getting the material to feed.....would just pile up in front of pickup....I tried everything.  Well, It got dark and tough and I just needed a beer and gave up for the night.  I slipped away from being a truck driver yesterday and was having the same trouble...........after 3 bales in 20 minutes I went home grabbed a frostie to settle my nerves and it dawned on me to raise the baler further off the ground.  My old 566 has adjustable axles.....took my air impact and in 10 minutes I had the axels switched and raised the baler 5 inches further off the ground.......Went back to the field and put the hammer down.   Just a helpful hint so others can avoid the PIA I went through......to bad I did not figure it out before I was half done.
